Alicia Kokemor Rossow: Treating Communication Disorders

Alicia Kokemor Rossow is a licensed speech and language pathologist in Round Rock, Texas, where she owns Advanced Pediatric Therapy. She treats children with Autism, Down's syndrome, Fluency, Articulation, and language disorders.

She is a member of the American Speech and Hearing Association, or ASHA, and says that speech disorders mean that someone is not able to produce speech sounds correctly, or that the person has a problem with their voice. Language disorders mean that a person has trouble understanding other people, what is called receptive language, or difficulty in sharing their thoughts, ideas and feeings, which is called expressive language.

More than forty million Americans have some kind of communication disorder, says Alicia Kokemor Rossow. About five percent of these issues have been identified by the time they have entered the first grade. Diagnosis is my by specialists like Alicia Kokemor Rossow through speech and language assessments, and treatment is by speech therapy.

At Advanced Pediatric Therapy, Alicia Kokemor Rossow provides intensive, one-on-one speech therapy to children as young as fourteen months, up to the age of seventeen. She says that for the best outcome the parents should be involved in the process as much as possible.

Alicia Kokemor Rossow says that unlike large companies, the therapists at Advanced Pediatric Therapy help clients with financial limitations and offer reduce cost assistance if a family does not have insurance, or is unable to afford standard industry charges. She adds that the therapists at Advanced Pediatric Therapy keep up with the industry through Continuing Education that exceeds the expectations of ASHA.
